Box League Information

The Summer Box Leagues ran from the 1st July 2010  until the 1st October 2010. Congratulations to Rory Armstrong, Charlie Hurman and Charlie Bruce for winning their respective age groups.

Box League Age Groups

The box Leagues will be running for the following age groups:

Under 18             Under 16             Under 14             Under 12             Mini Tennis Green(U10)

Mini Tennis Orange (U9)               Mini Tennis Red (U8)

Ages are as of the 1st January 2011 eg Under 12 on 01/01/11

Match Formats

  • Under 18 / 16 / 14 /12 and Mini Green will be the best of three short sets (ie first to 4 games with a tiebreaker at 4-4.  Sets can be won 5-3).  This applies to the first two sets.  The third set is a Champions Tie Breaker (ie first to 10 points). NB it maybe necessary to combine some age groups if entries in one particular group are low.
  • Mini Tennis Orange matches will be the best of three tie-breaker sets (ie first to 7 points) and Mini Tennis red matches will be one 10 point tie-breaker.
  • Boxes will contain a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8 players

Organising and Playing Matches

  • The box leagues will be displayed online on the Grand Slam Junior Website. Once applications are received, players will be sent log in details to access the secure section containing the boxes leagues and player details.
  • Matches are to be organised in your own time at a suitable club, park or private court venue.
  • Court sizes should be appropriate for each age group ie Mini Orange and Red matches should be on the correct size court. Access to mini nets will be available where required.
  • Each Player should provide 4 new or relatively new tennis balls to play the match with.  Players in the Mini Tennis Leagues should use the appropriate coloured Balls.  These can be purchased from Tim at cost price if required.

Players should score their own matches whenever possible, parental assistance maybe required for younger players, however parental input should be kept to a minimum and reports of ‘parental interference’ will be investigated. I know that the vast majority of parents are all very friendly though so hopefully we should not have any issues.

Recording and Reporting Scores.

At the end of the match the winner is responsible for reporting the score to the box league organiser (via online link) and entering the score online.  If there are any issues about the scores posted then please contact the Box league Organiser via the website link.

At the end of the allocated box league timeframe the matches played will be sent to the LTA for ratings purposes.
